From 31st August to 8th September, 1917, 2/4th London of 173 Brigade, 58th Division were at Brown Camp, Poperinghe, undergoing military training. There is no mention of any casualties in the Battalion Diary other than 26 men who were wounded on 1st September when the enemy shelled the Transport line. It could have been that Charles Philpott was killed in similar circumstances on 5th September or it is possible that he was attached to another unit at the time. |
